What is a reflexive pronoun in Oscan?

A reflexive pronoun is one that refers back to another noun. Think about how a mirror reflects an image of you: a reflexive pronoun reflects a previous noun. In English, these would be adjectives such as himself, herself, itself, and one’s own. For example, in the sentence “He put himself to sail”, the himself is a reflexive pronoun. Typically in common language, they can be used to place emphasis on a noun or simply to show what something is referring to.

Oscan enjoys both reflexive pronouns and adjectives that can be used this way. However, many of the forms are no longer extant, leaving us with only a handful of forms that we know of.

Below are the charts for the Oscan reflexive nouns.

But reflexives can also be adjectives to describe another noun. For example, think about the sentence “the sailor sailed his boat.” The adjective “his” is a reflexive adjective, referring back to the sailor yet also describing the boat. Below are the Oscan reflexive pronouns.
