5: Uses of Nouns - Cases
IN THIS LESSON
What’s involved in Oscan?
The Genitive can be used to show the matter at hand, especially in a legal sentence on our lasting codes and tablets. For example, Oscan can use the genitive to say what punishment is involved in a case. If this sounds like the Genitive of Penalty—it is very similar! In fact, Latin holds all of both of these cases under the umbrella of genitive of penalty. The Genitive of Penalty most often comes with a verb of charging, while the genitive of the matter involved does not have to.
Here is are some examples, with the genitive noun in bold:
castrous auti eituas zicolom - the day of the death penalty or fine
aserum eizazunc egmazum - a seizure of these things
